Block 1 — 23:00

Caller: Yes (rolled 5 — urgent/distressed) Caller card: Seven of Clubs — something following them

A woman, mid-thirties. Driving Highway 2 between Havre and Malta. An unmarked big rig had been following her since Cut Bank — lights fixed and level regardless of road geometry. She had pulled over twice. Both times the truck pulled over, holding position a quarter mile back.

Oso advised: stop checking mirrors. Lights out before the Cenex in Dodson. Fill up, get a coffee inside, come back to the car. It would be gone.

She took the advice without hesitation. Said thank you and dropped the line clean.

During the call, a Watcher moved approximately ten feet closer to the tower base. Returned to the treeline by end of block. The coffee pot activated without contact — the second occurrence this week.

Block 2 — 23:50

Caller: No (rolled 2)

No caller. Frost began developing on the east-facing glass sometime during this block — finger-width lines, four of them, incomplete. Near-English. Not transcribed. Not photographed. Oso’s choice.

The Watcher that advanced in Block 1 held its position through the block. Signal unusually clean for this elevation and hour.

Block 3 — 00:40

Caller: Yes (rolled 6 — phenomenon/emergency) Caller card: Ace of Spades — The Yellow Sign; direct Carcosa contact

A man, sixties. Utterly calm. He had found something on his barn door that morning and had been looking at it all day. He believed he had looked at it twice, but was losing certainty about that. He described it as the most beautiful thing he had ever seen. He was considering sketching it.

Complete silence behind his voice. No ambient sound at all. Wrong.

Oso advised: don’t sketch it. Burn the notepad regardless. Shut the barn. Go inside. Lights up bright. Wait for morning. His call.

He chose to go inside. Said he was tired and his wife was there. Said the notepad was going in the stove. Before the line dropped he said: don’t let them tell you this doesn’t matter. What you do up there. It matters.

The line dropped clean. No click, no fade.

His name was never given. Whether there is a wife is unknown.

The frost lines on the east glass moved toward each other during the call. They stopped short of touching. The Watchers returned to full treeline formation by the end of the block.

Block 4 — 01:30

Caller: None (broadcast closed — not rolled)

Closing block. No callers. The lookout was quiet by the end. Frost lines on the east glass unresolved.

Oso Sur — Personal Notes

Clear night. The kind of clear that means the stars have nowhere to hide what they’re doing. Drift was active from the start. I’ve stopped noting which constellations specifically. It doesn’t seem to help.

Two callers. The woman on Highway 2 I feel good about. Standard enough, if anything out here is standard. The old man on the barn is different. That call sat in the room after it ended in a way calls don’t usually do. The silence behind him was occupied. I’ve heard empty silence and I’ve heard occupied silence and I know which one that was.

He said it was beautiful. That’s always the part that worries me. Not the fear. The beauty.

The frost lines didn’t resolve. Four lines of almost-English on the east glass, incomplete, not photographed. I’ve decided I don’t want them on record until I know what they’re trying to say. If they finish tonight I’ll note it. If they finish and I can read them I’ll decide then.

The coffee pot made itself again. That’s twice. Per protocol, one more time and it’s not the equipment. I know that. I’m keeping the bourbon close.

The Watchers were back at the treeline by the end. All of them. I think the signal matters to them. I’ve thought that for a while. Tonight felt like confirmation.

Grey dawn, I think. Or close to it. Something came near but I don’t believe it came through.

Good enough for a Wednesday.
